Martinschlössl in Martinstrasse

The Martinschlössl is located at Martinstrasse 34 and 36 in the municipality of Klosterneuburg in the Tulln district in Lower Austria . The palace complex is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

The palace complex was built in 1766 under Ludwig Freiherr von Ripke with the inclusion of two town houses. From 1857 to 1869 an ornamental garden sloping towards the Danube was laid out. Further structural adaptations were made in 1869. In the interwar period, renovations and extensions were carried out with the architect and builder Josef Schömer .

In 1851 the painter August Pettenkofen lived in the castle. The singing " Trapp family " had their residence here (film "Sound of music"). In the 20th century the castle was used as a hotel; it is currently privately owned.

architecture

The palace complex has one and two-storey side wings in a surrounding wall with an extensive park. In the ornamental garden sloping down to the Danube, there is an outside staircase with stone cast bowls from the courtyard to the garden. There is also a fountain pavilion under a mansard roof from 1920.

House No. 34 is a three-sided two-storey complex under a mansard roof, the street and south-east wing consists partly of the 18th century, partly of the 19th and 20th centuries. The slightly bent street front shows itself in neo-baroque forms. The pilaster-framed portal from 1869 shows the coat of arms of Andreas Freiherr von Gredler . The main front to the park has a single-axis risalit in the middle under a gable-crowned roof bay window, at the ground level there is an arbor porch between round-arched shell niches, on the upper floor there is rich window roofing and Ionic pilasters. The courtyard fronts are designed in a reduced form and some have wrought iron window bars. The northeast wing is three-story due to the terrain. The courtyard terraces are structured by stone balustrades and blind arcades.

The interior of the building is often shaped by adaptations to a hotel. In the south-western wing of the street there are preserved lancet barrels and groin vaults from the 18th century. There is a small neo-baroque staircase. On the upper floor of the southeast wing there are gilded stucco ceilings, tiled stoves, and window niches and door wings in rococo shapes .

House No. 36 is a hook-shaped, single-storey former stable and remisent wing built in the 19th century under a mansard roof with a historicist courtyard facade. There is a separate water tower in the north.
