The Catholic Church of St. Martin (Polish Kościół św. Marcina ) in Warsaw is a Catholic Augustinian church in Warsaw's old town .
history
The church, together with the associated monastery and Heilig-Geist-Spital, was built by the Augustinians in the brick Gothic style on the initiative of Pope Innocent VI between 1353 and 1380 . built. The construction was largely carried out by Siemowit III. financed by Mazovia . The Gothic church burned down in the 15th century and again in the 17th century and was rebuilt in the Rococo style by Giovanni Battista Spinola and Karol Bay . The rococo altar was created by Johann Georg Plersch . In the Warsaw Uprising by the Wehrmacht initially burned down and later destroyed by blowing up the church after the war, was rebuilt.

The facade was rebuilt in the Rococo style, with the figures of Plersch also being reconstructed. The lower area of the church tower has features of brick Gothic, which is crowned by a baroque helmet.
In the church hangs the lower part of a baroque crucifix that was destroyed during the Second World War, the upper part of which was added in a modern style.
Baroque composer Adam Jarzębski and clergyman Władysław Korniłowicz are buried in the church.
Geographical location
The church is located in Warsaw's old town on Piwnastraße ("Bierstraße") , which leads to Castle Square . The 65 meter high church tower can be clearly seen from Schlossplatz.
