Marwan Hamadeh (2018)

Marwan Hamadeh ( Arabic مروان حمادة; *  September 11, 1939 in Beirut ) is Minister of Telecommunications in the current Lebanese government . He has also held positions in previous cabinets as Minister of Economy and Trade, Minister of Tourism and Minister of Health.

Hamadeh was injured by a car bomb on October 1, 2004 that killed his driver and injured his bodyguard. This attack can be seen as the beginning of the series of attacks against pro-Western Lebanese politicians and journalists. Marwan Hamadeh had submitted his resignation as minister just weeks before the explosion to protest against the constitutional amendment to extend President Émile Lahoud's mandate for another three years. Hamadeh is a critic of the Syrian occupation in Lebanon and is politically allied with Druze leader Walid Jumblat . Nadia Tueni , Hamadeh's sister, is a writer and poet, married to Ghassan Tueni , UN ambassador and editor of the Lebanese daily newspaper An-Nahar .
