Mary Gilchrist

Mary Dinorah Gilchrist (* 1882 , † January 14, 1947 in Edinburgh ) was a Scottish chess player . She was the daughter of the West Scottish chess master John Gilchrist.

Gilchrist was the Scottish Champion in 1921, 1922, 1923 and 1938 . She was British Champion in 1929 and 1934 .

She took part in the women's world chess championship twice: in 1933 in Folkestone she was third among seven participants. In Stockholm 1937 she reached the 8th / 9th among 26 participants together with the Swede Ingeborg Andersson . Space.

Gilchrist initially lived in Rutherglen, where she was a member of the Glasgow Ladies' Chess Club . After moving to Edinburgh, she became a member of the Edinburgh Ladies' Chess Club . Gilchrist was President of the Scottish Chess Federation and a lifelong member of the British Chess Federation .

She died unexpectedly on January 14, 1947.
