Mary Hoffman

Mary Hoffman (born April 20, 1945 in Eastleigh , Hampshire ) is a British children's author . About 80 novels come from her pen.

Hoffman grew up in London . From 1964 she first studied English literature at Cambridge University . In 1968 she moved to the University of London and graduated in 1970 with a degree in linguistics .

In the same year she began work on her first book, White Magic , which was published in 1975. Her fantasy story Stravaganza came to an end in 2008 with the volume City of Secrets . But more volumes are likely to follow.

Mary Hoffman is the editor of a children's literature magazine and a very successful author in England of numerous books for children and young people. She lives in West Oxfordshire with her husband and daughters.

Hoffman has been married to Stephen Barber since 1972. They have three daughters together. The oldest, Rhiannon Lassiter , is a writer herself.
