The English rose Mary Rose , syn. 'Ausmary' was introduced by David CH Austin in 1983. She is named after the flagship Mary Rose of King Henry VIII's fleet , which was salvaged in 1982 after over 400 years.
'Mary Rose' is a descendant of 'Wife of Bath' × 'The Miller', with approx. 7 cm large, pink, fragrant flowers that remount well . The hardy shrub rose is about 1.5 m high. The foliage is somewhat susceptible to sooty.
In 1992 the pale pink sport 'Redouté', syn. 'Auspale', and the white sport 'Winchester Cathedral', syn. 'Auscat', marketed by Austin.
