Marzotto is an Italian textile manufacturer based in Valdagno , Province of Vicenza .

history

Luigi Marzotto (1773–1869) founded the Lanificio Luigi Marzotto & Figli weaving mill in 1836 as a small family business with 12 workers, accompanied by a gesso mill, which for a long time supplied the main product (gesso, a primer for canvases). In 1842 his son Gaetano Marzotto (1820–1910) took over the company. Textile production grew under his leadership, in 1869 he installed turbines and in 1876 the number of employees had risen to 400.

After the death of Gaetano sen. In 1910 his son Vittorio Emanuele (1858-1922) took over the business. Vittorio Emanuele died as a result of a gunshot wound. His successor Gaetano jun. (1894–1972) acquired shares from relatives to prevent dismemberment. In 1897 the company had 1,200 employees, by 1931 the number rose to 3,500. The production of fabrics doubled, that of yarn quadrupled.

In 1982 Pietro Marzotto took over the management of the group. There were a number of company takeovers under his leadership: in 1985 he bought Bassetti , 1987 Lanerossi , 1991 Hugo Boss and 2002 Valentino .
