Massachusetts - The Bee Gees Musical

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Massachusetts - The Bee Gees Musical is a jukebox musical using songs by the British-Australian group Bee Gees from their beginnings in 1967 to 2003. They are performed by The Italian Bee Gees and three former band members of the Bee Gees.

action

In 2003, three young women embarked in Sydney as stowaways on a ship that was supposed to take them to London in search of one of their fathers. However, the ship hides a secret: it's a giant time machine. It is accidentally started and the three women have a great adventure. On their time travels between the 1960s and the present, they repeatedly encounter the Bee Gees and experience milestones in the band's history. Finally, they also find the missing father.

construction

Massachusetts - The Bee Gees Musical is a mix of musical and concert. In addition to the songs of the actual plot, the captain's actor moderates the performance by introducing the former and current band members, discussing their biographies and addressing their musical backgrounds. Two other songs written by the Bee Gees for Diana Ross and Celine Dion , respectively, are performed by Letizia Mongelli and Laura Ugolini. In addition to game scenes, there are dance scenes, interviews and video recordings.

criticism

“Perhaps it is the very honest, deep respect that the three brothers Walter, Davide and Pasquale Egiziano show their English role models, one of the most striking differences to dodgy estate administrators. Without flirtatiousness, but also without naivety, but at an artistically astonishing level, the three of them give a concert through the life and success story of what, according to the Guinness Book of Records, is the "most successful family bond of all time."

This also means that the Italian Bee Gees tend to quote the legend rather than copy it, especially with regard to external appearances. Costumes and looks are somehow borrowed, but no longer. On the other hand, the similarity of the voices, which is revealed in the very dense chant that is so exemplary for the Bee Gees, is striking. In order to bring these songs convincingly to the live stage, considerable musical knowledge and a lot of skill are required. That's why the last surviving brother, Barry Gibb, personally blessed the show. "
