Massena Terminal Railroad

The Massena Terminal Railroad ( AAR reporting mark MSTR) is a rail company in the state of New York in the United States . The shunting company belongs to the Genesee and Wyoming Inc.

The company, based in Massena , was founded on April 20, 1900 and has since served primarily as a connecting railway for Alcoa's aluminum plant in Massena.

In 2005, RailAmerica took over Alcoa's own railway companies, including the Massena Terminal Railroad. In 2012, the railway company joined Genesee and Wyoming Inc. with the takeover of RailAmerica.

Around 3,000 freight wagons are moved annually on the 6.5-kilometer route. Two EMD MP15DC locomotives (No. 14 and 15) are available for traffic . In Massena there is a transition to the route network of CSX Transportation . Locomotive No. 11, an ALCO S-4 , was handed over to the New York Cross Harbor Railroad .
