history

Foundation and publication of sections (2006-2010)

In the fourth year of secondary school , school friends Derya Nagle and Lori Peri formed the band at the age of 15. Shortly afterwards, guitarist Joaquin Ardiles, who was friends with Derya Nagle, joined the band. As a drummer, Calvin Smith also joined the band, who went to elementary school with Lori Peri and was at another school at the time the band was founded. As a singer, the band was able to win over Sean McWeeney, who had previously played in another band, so that, except for Calvin Smith, all went to the same school.

In March 2009 the band released their first EP under the name Sections , which the band chose because the band members studied at different universities during the creation phase of the EP and this had made the work on the publication more difficult. The EP was only available digitally and on the first song of the EP, which was also called Sections and from which the name of the EP was derived, was a guitar solo by the musician Graham "Pin" Pinney, who at that time was part of the already dissolved band SikTh played, and heard Martin Goulding from the band Linear Sphere. The contact came about because Derya Nagle had already taken guitar lessons from the two of them at an earlier time and therefore involved them in the process of creating the EP.

On December 21, 2014, Lori Peri announced that he had left the band.

Record deal and release of debut album (2011–2012)

The Safety Fire at the Euroblast Festival 2014

In February 2011 the band played their first tour outside the UK as part of The League of Extraordinary Djentlemen tour alongside Periphery and Monuments . When the band in Hamburg played their second concert of the tour, which went vans broke the band, so the band was forced to take the train to the next concert in Berlin to go where they have the instruments used and the other bands to their concert to play can. This was followed by an appearance at the Sonisphere Festival in July 2011 in Knebworth , where the band was represented alongside bands such as Metallica , Megadeth and Slayer . In August 2011 the band announced that they had signed a record deal with the German record label InsideOut Music , through which they would release their debut album . After some discussions with other record labels, the band decided on InsideOut Music as it specialized in bands from the genre.

Between March and April 2012 the band was on their first tour through the United States of America with Jeff Loomis , Protest the Hero and Periphery . At the same time, with some delay, the band's first studio album, Grind the Ocean , was released in early April after it was supposed to be released in February. Like the EP, the album was recorded in Derya Nagle's own studio, from where he had already produced the music for bands such as Rise to Remain and The HAARP Machine . In the summer of 2012 the band performed at the Download Festival as well as the Hevy Music Festival and the Brutal Assault .

Second studio album Mouth of Swords and Dissolution (2013-2015)

On August 30, 2013, the band released their second studio album Mouth of Swords . In addition, Tommy Rogers, the singer of the band Between the Buried and Me , should appear as a guest musician on a song . The band announced the breakup on April 1, 2015 via their Facebook page. What initially looked like an April Fool's joke was confirmed on July 16. More precise reasons were not given.

style

The band stands out for its alternation of distorted and clear guitar parts, while the clear parts of the songs are based on elements of pop and jazz . Sean McWeeney's singing also alternates between gutural and clear singing. The lyrics of the songs are mostly about social issues and are shaped by literature . For example, the Song Sections is based on Dante Alighieri's Inferno .

During the recording of the first EP Sections , Derya Nagle used a Blackmachine electric guitar, while Joaquin Ardiles played a Schecter guitar . Today both use Wirebird brand electric guitars, which are copies of the Fender Telecaster series . Both guitars are equipped with Bareknuckle pickups and, in addition to the Dropped D tuning , are tuned to an unusual guitar tuning for some songs, in which the low E string, for a guitar tuned according to the standard tuning, is tuned to an A. is tuned down (AADGHE). The idea came from the bands Pantera and SikTh, who also used this tuning in some of their songs.

Others

The band is known for their fancy designs on their merchandise . These are all specially designed by Derya Nagle.
