Massimo Cocco

Massimo Cocco (born August 4, 1960 ) is an Italian geophysicist . Since 1997 he has been research director of the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) in Rome . From 2001 to 2007 he was head of the Seismology and Tecton Physics department at INGV .

Cocco received his PhD in physics from La Sapienza University in Rome. He deals with the physics of earthquakes and small fluctuations and also worked in the area of ​​infrastructure for geo-measurement systems. He is also significantly involved in the European Plate Observing System (EPOS) project.

From 1995 to 1996 he was Associate Professor of Seismology at the University of Bologna . From 1996 to 1998 he was Professor of Seismology at the University of Milan and from 1998 to 2000 at the University of Rome III . From 2008 to 2009 he was a lecturer in theoretical seismology at the Rose School at the University of Pavia, founded by the IUSS in 2000 .

Massimo Cocco is a member of the Academia Europaea and has so far published over 110 papers in international publications ( h-index = 34; as of September 30, 2014).
