The Uitikon Measures Center (MZU) in Uitikon , Switzerland , as an institution of the canton of Zurich, has the task of empowering the male young offenders between the ages of 16 and 25 to live independently and legally and to take responsibility for their own lives in every respect . The MZU has 30 prison places in the closed and 34 in the open department.

In order to achieve this goal, the areas of social education, therapy and training work closely together at the MZU. Vocational training is a central means to ensure that both the integration into the work process and the social integration of a young offender can be successful.

In addition to professional training and the execution of customer orders, the MZU training companies have also specialized in the manufacture of unconventional furniture and home accessories. The products are offered in their own shop.

history

Photo taken in August 1964

A special purpose association of 13 municipalities in the Zurich district bought the castle property in 1873 in order to open a correctional facility for women and men the following year. In 1882 the buildings were taken over by the canton of Zurich, who set up what was then the Labor Education Institute (AEA) in 1925. In 2005, the organizational development process “from AEA to MZU” was completed with the implementation of confrontational pedagogy as a central, action-guiding model.

On January 1, 2006 the name was changed from Arbeitsserziehungsanstalt (AEA) to Action Center Uitikon (MZU).
