Masumi Okada

Masumi Okada ( Japanese 岡田 眞 澄 , Okada Masumi ; born September 22, 1935 in Nice , † May 28, 2006 in Tokyo ) was a Japanese actor .

Life

Okada was born in France to a Japanese and a Danish woman. At the age of four he moved with his family to Japan, where he spent his youth and discovered his affinity for acting.

First he worked as a stage actor a. a. at the Nichigeki Music Hall in Tokyo. In later years he also took part in theater productions.

In 1956 he made his feature film debut in the drama Taiyō no kisetsu . In his nearly 50-year career, he played in numerous film and television productions. He also appeared on Japanese television as a presenter. His internationally best-known films include the drama The Yellow Venus of Kamakura , Inoshirô Honda's science fiction film U 4000 - Panic Under the Ocean , and the American action film The Hunted (with Christopher Lambert ). In the epic mini-series Shogun based on James Clavell , he stood by the side of the main character played by Richard Chamberlain as the gentle “brother Michael” .

Masumi Okada died on May 28, 2006 of throat cancer .

His older brother was the actor EH Eric (* 1929 ), who in the year 2000 a suffering Parkinson's died.
