Mata Aho Collective

Mata Aho Collective is an artist group (founded in 2012) consisting of Erena Baker (* 1984), Sarah Hudson (* 1986), Bridget Reweti (* 1985) and Terri Te Tau (* 1981) in Aotearoa New Zealand . All four are Māori women.

Erena Baker (Te Atiawa ki Whakarongotai, Ngāti Toa Rangātira) completed her Masters in Māori Visual Arts at Massey University , Palmerston North in 2009 with distinction . Sarah Hudson (Ngāti Awa, Ngāi Tūhoe) received her Master of Fine Art from Massey University in 2010 . Bridget Reweti (Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāi Te Rangi) graduated with a Masters (with honors) in Māori Visual Arts from Massey University and then studied at Victoria University of Wellington . Terri Te Tau (Rangitāne ki Wairarapa) also completed her Ph.D. in 2015 after completing her postgraduate studies. for art from Massey University .

The Mata Aho Collective works together on large, often textile installations that are related to Mana Wāhine and refer to the traditional weaving and braiding technique of Māori women. Te Whare Pora (2013), Kaokao , Stop Collaborate and Listen (2014) and Kiko Moana are room-filling installations. Kiko Moana was exhibited at documenta 14 in Kassel in 2017 .
