Matelassé

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hood with mattelassé (Alsace, late 19th century)

Matelassé is the pique similar double fabric , quilted fabric and hollow weave with two differently tensioned chains and at least one lying inside of the fabric figure weft ( filling weft in a large-area bonding pattern).

This jacquard embedding creates a relief-like pattern. The surface is structured by a fine fabric that sometimes also covers the back.
