Mathias Kappil (born January 21, 1928 in Koduvila (Kallada), Kollam , state of Kerala , India ; † February 24, 2007 in Kottayam , state of Kerala) was Bishop of Punalur in India.

Life

He came from Kallada in the diocese of Quilon and was the eldest of 12 children of the couple Pathrose and Ramnesia.

Mathias Kappil was ordained priest on December 7, 1954 in Rome . In 1985 he was appointed by John Paul II as the first bishop of the newly founded diocese of Punalur . Before that, he had already been pastor of this city, which at that time belonged to the diocese of Quilon, for 12 years. In 2005 his resignation was granted.

He died in Holy Cross Hospital, Kottayam.
