Mathias Podhorsky
Mathias Podhorsky ( February 15, 1800 in Vršovice - December 5, 1849 in Prague ) was a Czech opera singer (baritone).
Life
Podhorsky, the son of a winemaker, sang first as a choirboy with the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star and later at the Prague Theater, where over time he was also assigned small tenor and baritone roles. After a few years he came to the Kärntnertortheater in Vienna. From there he went back to Prague as the first baritone.
He had a rather dry, yet powerful voice, but was more conspicuous because of his masculine appearance and his dramatic play. His star role was "Don Juan".
In later years, however, he sang only minor roles.
On February 21, 1827 he married his colleague, the opera singer Katharina Comet (1807-1891).
