Mathias Schubert (born July 26, 1952 in Chemnitz ; † October 29, 2004 ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Bundestag.

Life

Schubert graduated from high school in 1971 in what was then Karl-Marx-Stadt and then studied theology at the University of Leipzig from 1973 to 1978 and passed the state examination and diploma. In 1980 he obtained his second theological exam in Eisenach, followed by his doctorate in 1986. From 1981 to 1986 he worked as a pastor in Braunsbedra , Merseburg district. From 1986 to 1990 he was a consultant for social ethics in the theological study department at the Federation of Evangelical Churches in the GDR. From 1990 to 1993 he was district administrator in the district of Fürstenwalde and in 1994 he worked in the Ministry of Finance of the State of Brandenburg.

Schubert joined the SPD in 1990 and became deputy sub-district chairman in Oder-Spree . From 1990 to 1994 he was a member of the Fürstenwalde district assembly and since 1998 a member of the Oder-Spree district assembly. In 1994 he became a member of the German Bundestag, where he had been spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group for the affairs of the new states since 1998. After the end of the fourteenth legislative period in 2002, he left the German Bundestag. He was always directly elected in the constituency of Fürstenwalde - Strausberg - Seelow .
