Matices is a magazine on Latin America , Spain and Portugal . The term "Matices" in Spanish or "Matizes" in Portuguese means something like "shades" or "nuances" and refers to the aim of the publishing house , the diversity of Latin American and Iberian realities to want to represent. Cultural (literature, art, film and music), anthropological, political, economic and historical issues of the regions are dealt with from different perspectives . The magazine offers a forum for social issues with the claim to avoid “Eurocentric one-sidedness”.

The authors of Matices write from Spain, Portugal or Latin America or have close ties to the region through their journalism and university activities . A special in each issue focuses on a specific current topic. In addition, the reader receives up-to-date information and tips in the calendar , country reports and cultural notes .

Matices has been published by the Projektgruppe Matices eV association in Cologne since the spring of 1994 , appears quarterly and can be obtained by subscription or from specialist retailers.
