Matra MS7
The Matra MS7 was a Formula 2 racing car that Matra developed and built in 1967.
The MS7 was the last Monoposto -Matra that was not a Formula 1 car, but one of the most successful Formula 2 cars in motorsport history. The monocoque had four ribs that were riveted. The side panels contained the fuel tanks, which had a total capacity of 120 liters. The 1.6-liter Cosworth engines used a lot of fuel. In the three years that the vehicles were used, their base remained almost unchanged. In 1968 and 1969 wings were used in the front and rear. While the previous model, the MS6 , was still inferior to the competition from Brabham , the MS7 became the measure of all things in Formula 2 in 1967, 1968 and 1969.
The MS7 won the championship three times in a row. In 1967 the Belgian Jacky Ickx , who competed for Ken Tyrrell (the Briton split from Matra International at the end of 1966), became the first Formula 2 European champion. In 1968 Jean-Pierre Beltoise won the championship for the Matra factory team and in 1969 Johnny Servoz-Gavin triumphed for Matra International.
