Matt Kempke

Matthias "Matt" Kempke (* 1980 in Hamburg ) is a German author and game designer. He works as a designer at Daedalic Entertainment . He previously produced the Independent games of What-Makes-You-Tick? -Line.

Career

Kempke's passion for classic adventure games from LucasArts grabbed him early on. At the end of the 1990s , he designed a fan page about the Monkey Island games. Kempke studied Japanese and African Studies at the University of Leipzig and developed point-and-click adventures during his studies .

What Makes You Tick? was initially only available in English in 2007 and in 2010 as a download from Lassie Games , a label owned by programmer Greg MacWilliam . The second part of the series, A Stitch in Time , was also published in German in 2011 by a German publisher.

After completing his studies, Matthias Kempke was hired by the Hamburg developer Daedalic Entertainment as a game designer in autumn 2011 . His first game at Daedalic was the 2013 point-and-click adventure The Night of the Rabbit . Most recently, he worked as lead designer with Kevin Mentz on the implementation of the Ken Follett novel The Pillars of the Earth as a video game , which was published in three chapters from August 2017 to March 2018.

Some common themes can be found in his games: In What Makes You Tick: A Stitch in Time and The Night of the Rabbit , a threat arises from foreign forces that subvert and / or suppress the inhabitants of the respective game worlds. The plot of What Makes You Tick: A Stitch in Time was inspired by Franz Kafka and his novel Das Schloss .
