Matthaeus Silvaticus

Matthaeus Silvaticus (* 1285 in Salerno ; † 1342 ) was an Italian medical writer and botanist who taught at the medical school of Salerno .

He completed his most famous work in 1317, the Opus pandectarum Medicinae or Pandectae Medicinae . It is a 650-page reference work in Latin on medicinal treatment with medicinal herbs ( Pharmacopoeia ). Silvatico carried out his studies in the ancient botanical garden known as the Giardino della Minerva in the center of Salerno.
