Matthew B. Crawford (* 1965 in Virginia ) is an American writer and philosopher . He works mainly in his own motorcycle workshop.

Live and act

Crawford studied political philosophy at the University of Chicago and has a PhD in philosophy . He works one day a week at the University of Virginia and four days a week in his motorcycle workshop in Richmond .

Crawford criticizes the incapacitating automation, especially technologies that keep people from the sensual confrontation with reality. Practice is more important to him than knowledge, the craft and the power to act are more important to him than the virtual, prefabricated experiences that decouple people from their self-efficacy . He understands self-efficacy to be a creative and fulfilling activity in order to get involved with physical reality and the uniqueness of the other person and the material.

Matthew Crawford hit the New York Times bestseller list with his debut I Bolt .
