Tiagra 9-speed rear derailleur

Tiagra is the name of a road bike group from the Japanese manufacturer Shimano . It is considered a beginner group and ranks in the price and weight category below the Shimano 105 group and above the Sora group.

history

The Shimano Tiagra group was introduced around the year 2000 and replaced the previously existing RX100 group. Tiagra has been offered as a ten-fold group since 2012. In 2005, the Octalink mount was introduced for the group's crank and bottom bracket. A year later, the Hollowtech II technology for the connection between crank and bottom bracket was defined as the standard for the 4500 series. STIs with integrated gear displays have also been available for the group since then. In 2012, Shimano changed the shifting technology with the 4600 series so that regular racing bike cassettes with 32 teeth on the largest sprocket are offered for the group. The group was henceforth available in the ten-fold version. The 4700 series was presented in 2016. The components cassettes and crank as well as the cable routing and the rear derailleur have been expanded or improved. The crank was converted to the new four-arm design and supplied in the variant with double and triple chainrings. Cranks are available in four lengths from 165 to 175 mm.

While all other Shimano groups are now available in the eleven-fold version, the Tiagra group has not been extended to this standard (as of 2018).

According to the tour, the difference in weight to the high-quality Ultegra group amounts to around 350 grams more weight in the 9-fold variants .
