Matthew DeHart

Matthew Paul "Matt" DeHart (born June 11, 1984 ) is an American whistleblower from Newburgh , Indiana .

DeHart sought asylum in Canada after the FBI questioned him about his involvement in the Anonymous hacking group and WikiLeaks , and after serving in prison for 20 months with no evidence of criminal activity. He was charged with producing and transporting child pornography in Tennessee in October 2010 , and sees this as an FBI pretext. If convicted, he faces a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 25 years in prison. The US Justice Department admitted that he was arrested on an espionage matter and that it was a national security investigation. He joined the Air National Guard (ANG) in February 2008 and was dishonorably discharged in June 2009. Officially this was justified with "psychological problems". DeHart says that prior to his release, he was approached about his internet activism on the pretext of a drug test and that he was offered an honorable discharge with a severance payment if he kept quiet.
