Matthias Ranft
Matthias Ranft (* in Hamburg ) is a German classical cellist .
Career
Matthias Ranft began playing the cello at the age of seven. While still in high school, he had lessons at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg with Arthur Troester (1906–1997). He completed his studies at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg with Christoph Henkel. He then studied with Janos Starker in Bloomington (USA) .
Musical activities
1981–1983 Ranft was principal cellist of the Hof Symphony Orchestra , and since 1985 he has played with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and is their principal cellist. Matthias Ranft performs as a chamber musician in a duo with his wife, the pianist Tomoko Ogasawara, in the (piano) trio Frankonia and in the ensemble "ABRAXAS". In addition, he regularly takes part in festivals such as B. “Affinis” in Japan. From 2001 to 2004 he was teaching at the University of Music Freiburg and at international master classes in Japan. Matthias Ranft can be heard on numerous radio and CD recordings.
