Matthias Sens

Matthias Sens (born March 21, 1944 in Schlieben ) is a German Protestant theologian and former regional bishop .

From 1965 to 1971 Sens studied Protestant theology in Naumburg and Berlin. After ordination in 1975, he worked as a repetitionist and assistant at the Catechetical Oberseminar Naumburg and as a consultant for ecumenism in the theological study department at the Federation of Evangelical Churches in the GDR . During the parish office in Niederndodeleben from 1981 he completed his dissertation, with which he was awarded a Dr. theol. received his doctorate. In 1986, as senior consistorial advisor in the consistory of the Evangelical Church in the ecclesiastical province of Saxony, he was responsible for the field of “ecumenism, mission, global responsibility”. In 1996 he was elected provost of the Magdeburg-Halberstadt district and took up his post in April 1997, which was later designated as regional bishop. From 2004 to 2009 Sens was also provisional provost for the Altmark district. He retired in March 2009.
