Mattitja ben Solomon Delacrut

Mattitja ben Solomon Delacrut was a Jewish scholar, translator of an astronomical work, and Kabbalist in Krakow around 1545.

Life

There is hardly any information about himself. Maybe he was born in France . Mattitja studied astronomy and philosophy in Bologna . Around 1545 he taught in Cracow . Mordechai Jaffe was one of his students .

  1. His name is probably French. The authors Solomon Abigdor and Goussillion, whose works he translated or commented on, were French.
  2. Krakow had the second oldest university in Central Europe. Nicolaus Copernicus had studied there. In 1543 he published his major astronomical work.
