Wall crew

As wall crew , persons are responsible for the security service or the battle on the wall of a mounting were used.

Mostly it was about the troops, i.e. soldiers , who kept the corresponding fortifications occupied. In some cases, such as a city defense , armed civilians were used to defend the wall. The crew of a wall then consisted of mixed units of soldiers and supporting civilians who could intervene in the fight with appropriate armament. Civilians were used for logistical services by providing the wall crew with food in the event of a siege or by bringing ammunition such as arrows and projectiles onto the walls during combat .

In the medieval cities with their city walls, guilds were responsible for the defense of certain sections of the wall. The guild members were responsible for the maintenance and training of their members.
