Mauri Pekkarinen (born October 6, 1947 in Kinnula ) is a Finnish politician , long-time parliamentarian, economic minister from 2008 to 2011 and a member of the Finnish Center Party .

Pekkarinen graduated from high school in 1968. He studied economics at Jyväskylä University, graduating in 1974. He was first elected to the Finnish Parliament in 1979. Since then he has belonged to it continuously.

He was Minister of Commerce and Industry in the Jäätteenmäki and Vanhanen I governments and in the first months of Vanhanen II from 2003-2008. He was Finland's interior minister from 1991 to 1995. In June 2010, after Vanhanen's move to the European Commission, he lost the vote for chairman of the Center Party with 1035: 1357 against Mari Kiviniemi , who also became prime minister.
