Maurice Metral

Maurice Métral (born April 5, 1929 in Grône , † January 14, 2001 in Grimisuat ) was a Swiss writer.

biography

Maurice Métral was born in 1929 as one of ten children of a carpenter. After training as a carpenter, he worked on the large dams in Valais from 1949 to 1953. From 1955 he worked as a teacher of French and literature at the Jewish Institute of Bex . In 1960 he became a journalist at the Feuille d'Avis du Valais , of which he became editor-in-chief three years later. In 1970 he ended his activity as a journalist for health reasons and devoted himself entirely to work as a writer.

In 1951 Métral married Angela Romelli. The couple had five children. After a few years, the Métral family settled in Combes in the municipality of Grimisuat . Maurice Métral dedicated his work to the Valais and its residents, but also to current issues.
