Maurice Sandeyron (born April 21, 1921 in Paris , † February 15, 1999 ibid.) Was a French boxer . He was the European champion of the flyweight professional boxer .
Career
Maurice Sandeyron from Paris became a professional boxer in 1942 at the age of 21. Nothing is known about a previous amateur career. He was only 1.55 meters tall, weighed between 50 kg and 55 kg throughout his professional career and therefore started in the lightest weight class that existed in professional boxing at the time, the flyweight.
He fought his first fight on October 15, 1942 in Paris and defeated his compatriot Jean Mouchon on points after 8 rounds. Until the end of the war in 1945, he still fought 16 fights, always in Paris, of which he won 12 and lost four. Prominent opponents were not there.
On June 16, 1945 he competed in Marseille against Theo Medina in the fight for the French championship. He had to accept a technical knockout defeat in the 9th round. His next two attempts to become French flyweight champions also failed. First he lost on April 14, 1946 in Nice against Emile Famechon after 12 rounds on points. On July 7, 1946 he fought in Monte Carlo against the same opponent in a draw, who remained champion. On January 16, 1947, Maurice Sandeyron succeeded in St. Etienne in the third attempt to defeat Emile Famechon after 12 rounds on points and thus become French champion.
On May 21, 1947 he was then also European Champion (EBU) in Brussels. He beat Belgian Raoul Degreyse after 15 rounds on points. He defended this title on July 6, 1948 in London by winning points after 15 rounds over the Englishman Dickie O'Sullivan . On October 18, 1948, Maurice Sandeyron lost in London against the same opponent in a non-title fight after 8 rounds on points, but successfully defended his European title against the same opponent on November 28, 1948 in London by winning points after 15 rounds. On April 5, 1949 he had to defend his European title in Belfast against the Northern Irishman Rinty Monaghan and lost against him after 15 rounds on points. Monaghan was the new European flyweight champion.
On May 5, 1950, Maurice Sandeyron had to give up the French flyweight championship title in Paris after losing points to Theo Medina. On November 11, 1950, he beat Theo Medina in Paris in a non-title fight after 10 rounds on points and thus took revenge for his defeat of May 5, 1950. On July 8, 1951, he failed in Avignon when trying again to become French flyweight champion . He lost to Emile Chemama by dropping out in the 8th round. On October 18, 1952, he was more successful in a title fight for the French championship. He defeated Andre Valignat after 15 rounds on points and was again the French bantamweight champion.
On January 19, 1953, he suffered a bitter demolition defeat in the 9th round in a non-title fight in Paris against the new French star in boxing heaven Robert Cohen (boxer) . In this fight he boxed three times. On June 17, 1953, he competed in Glasgow in good form against the British Peter Keenan (boxer) for the vacant European Championship (EBU) and lost this fight after 15 rounds just on points, whereby he and his supervisors were of the opinion that he won. On November 6, 1953 Maurice Sandeyron defended his French championship title against Robert Cohen in Paris and lost after 15 rounds on points.
After this fight he ended his boxer career. He completed training as a sports teacher and then worked as such at various schools in Paris. From the mid-1960s he was the responsible coach of the French national team of amateur boxers for several years.
