Maurice Seynaeve

Maurice Seynaeve ( January 31, 1907 in Heule-Kortrijk ( West Flanders ), † November 28, 1998 in Buenos Aires ) was a Belgian cyclist who was active as a specialist in cross-country racing .

Athletic career

Maurice Seynaeve was active from 1928 (initially in the independent class) until 1940. His home club was the Stoemper Club Leuven . From 1933 to 1937 he was consistently Belgian champion in cross-country racing in the championship races open to all categories.

Before the Second World War , he won the Criterium international de Cyclo-Cross in 1934 and 1936 , which was considered the unofficial UCI world championship in cyclo-cross racing. In total, he won around 30 cyclo-cross races. He was able to win some criteria on the road. His most notable result was fifth in the Paris-Brussels race in 1931.

In the last two years of his career he also competed in standing races and was twice third in the Belgian championship (1938 and 1939).

After finishing his career in 1940 he emigrated to Argentina and died there in 1998 at the age of 91 near Buenos Aires.
