Mauritius Church in Kirchrimbach

The Marituskirche is a church in Kirchrimbach , a district of Burghaslach in the Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim district . It is one of the most famous historical sights of the market. Due to its good location, it can be seen from afar.

Location and history

The church is on the western edge of the village of Kirchrimbach on a small hill. The church can be reached via the street “NEA 7”. The Mauritius Church is the former church of the Evangelical Lutheran Parish Kirchrimbach; Since the construction of a newer church, services are only occasionally held there. The small building, the tower of which is as wide as its nave, with its choir tower dates from the early 14th century, the upper half-timbering is from 1681, as is the nave, according to the inventory. The village church on the eastern edge of the village developed into the problem child of the community and all pastors in the following centuries. From 1720 the files repeatedly contain information about structural damage and repairs to the nave and choir towerand on the roof cover. In addition, the lack of space was complained from 1800 - the Mauritius church had simply become too small for the community. A new church, the Christ Church, on the western edge of the village was not completed until 1903.

It is thanks to the State Office for Monument Preservation that the Mauritius Church, an art-historical gem, was not demolished. A resolution from 1905 states: “The old parish church does not have any interior design of importance and artistic or historically interesting furnishings. The characteristic overall appearance of the exterior architecture alone, in particular the roof shape characteristic of the area there, and the scenic charm that the church, together with its hill, which is richly overgrown with trees and bushes, offers the Rimbach Valley, are completely sufficient to preserve the building from the point of view of monument preservation of the time-honored church belonging to the Middle Ages. "

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Mauritius Church became widely known through the painting of the little church in Franconia by the Art Nouveau painter Matthäus Schiestl and gave the building the popular name "Schiestl Church".

monument

The church is listed in the Bavarian Monument List under the number D-5-75-116-34 with the following description: "Alte Evang.-Luth.
