Maurizio D'Angelo (born September 29, 1969 ) is a former Italian football player and current coach. D'Angelo had his most successful time at Chievo Verona , for whom he played 333 league games in 15 years.

Career

As a player

D'Angelo began his career as an amateur player with Trissino and then moved to ASD Boca Ascesa in 1987 , for which he played 29 games. In 1988 he was signed by AC Chievo Verona , then a relatively unknown provincial club, but then awarded twice. In 1991 he returned to Chievo and was able to fight for a regular place, later even being appointed captain. With D'Angelo as captain Chievo celebrated two climbs and played from now in the Serie A .

Like many Chievo players, D'Angelo made his Serie A debut on August 26, 2001 in a surprising away win against Fiorentina . In 2002 he lost his regular place and his captain's armband to Lorenzo D'Anna , but was still considered an important supplementary player. In 2003 he left Chievo after twelve seasons and joined the then still in the Serie B playing Napoli , for which he played 15 games. However, in the same year he returned to Chievo and this time mainly served as an assistant coach. He played his last professional game on May 16, 2004 against FC Bologna , after which he ended his active career.

As a trainer

After his career as a player, D'Angelo stayed as assistant coach for the new coach Mario Beretta in the 2004/05 season at Chievo Verona. After a good start, the club continued to slide towards the relegation places. After all, three game days before the end of the game they were in 18th place in the table, a relegation place. Beretta was dismissed and replaced by D'Angelo on an interim basis. With D'Angelo you could get two wins and one draw from the last three games and thus achieve relegation.

Despite his good debut as head coach, D'Angelo was again assistant coach in the following season. In 2006 he worked as a scout for Chievo before he left the club in 2008 and took up a position as head coach at FC Südtirol . On November 12, 2008, he was released after disappointing results.
