The Imam Husain Shrine ( Arabic مقام الامام الحسين) is a Shiite Islamic holy site in the city of Karbala , Iraq . It stands next to the grave of Husain ibn ʿAlī , the second grandson of Mohammed , near the place where he died in the battle of Karbala in 680.

The mausoleum of Hussain ibn Alis

The first dome is 27 meters high and completely covered with gold. On the ground floor, the mausoleum is surrounded by twelve windows, each at a distance of 1.25 meters (internal dimensions) or 1.30 meters (external dimensions) from the next.

The mausoleum is 59 meters wide and 75 meters long with ten entrances and around 65 rooms. It is richly decorated inside and out. The rooms are used as seminar rooms. They are also used for live broadcasts by Kerbela TV , which broadcasts all activities by satellite on a daily basis.

In 2010 (1432 AH ) at al-Arba'un, 14.1 million people entered the shrine.
