Toll in the Czech Republic

On the motorways in the Czech Republic applies toll ( Czech Mýtne or Czech mýto ).

Car

Motorways (D) and former expressways (R)

Car drivers must purchase a motorway vignette. Some sections of the motorway in the large cities and sections without connections to the rest of the motorway network are toll-free. In addition, all motorway sections in the direction from the state border to the first exit (or only to the first vignette sales point) are free of charge. Toll-free sections are marked with a green motorway sign and a crossed-out vignette. The license plate number must be written on the vignette and on the second detachable part of the receipt ( called dálniční kupón in Czech ). Then the vignette is stuck on the inside of the windshield at the bottom right. The part of the receipt must be kept. Expired vignettes must be removed.

Car vignettes (up to 3.5 tons ) are available in 2019 for:

  • 10 days, triangular with imprint D), 310 CZK
  • one month, square with M imprint, 440 CZK
  • or a calendar year / 14 months, round with R imprint, CZK 1,500

In 2019, new colors were set for the vignettes. The 10-day vignette is red, the monthly vignette is green and the annual vignette is blue. According to plans by the Czech Ministry of Transport, there will be no more vignettes from 2021. Instead, the cars are photographed and the labels are used to check whether the toll has been paid.

truck

All trucks and vehicles with the maximum permitted weight of more than 3,500 kg must participate in the electronic toll system. The on-board unit (OBU) called "Premid" is required for this.

The toll rate for 1 km depends on the following parameters:

  • Road category (motorways and expressways or 1st class roads)
  • Type of vehicle (truck or bus)
  • Emission classes (EURO 0 – V + (EEV))
  • Number of axles or number of vehicle trains (2, 3 and 4 or more)
  • Day of the week and time of day (increased tariff on Fridays from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.)

motorcycles

Motorcycles and trikes do not require a vignette.

control

Driving on toll roads without a vignette can cost up to 5,000 CZK (around 185 euros) fine.
