Mavis Rivers

Mavis Chloe Rivers (born May 19, 1929 in Apia , Samoa , † 1992 in Los Angeles ) was a Samoan singer.

Rivers made his first professional experience as a singer in New Zealand , first recordings were made for the Tanza and Zodiac labels. She moved to the United States in the 1950s. From the late 1950s to the mid 1960s she recorded for the Capitol , Reprise and Vee Jay Records labels , where she worked a. a. with arrangers Marty Paich , Mel Tormé and Nelson Riddle , she also released a Mildred Bailey tribute album with a band under the direction of Red Norvo . In 1959 she received the nomination for the Grammy Award for Best New Artist . She is the mother of saxophonist, arranger and band leader Matt Catingub .
