The Mawddwy Railway was a British railway company based in Montgomeryshire in Wales .

history

In order to connect the slate quarrying around Dinas Mawddwy to the rail network, the landowner and entrepreneur Edmund Buckley initiated and financed the construction of a railway line through the Dyfi Valley from Dinas Mawddwy to the Cambrian Railways in Cemmaes Road .

On July 5, 1865, the company received approval to build the 10.9-kilometer route . The standard gauge line was opened on October 1, 1867. The Hendre Ddu Tramway was connected in Aberangell . It was operated by the contractor Richard Francis . The transport volume from the slate mines was too small to guarantee the long-term maintenance of the route. On April 17, 1901, the passenger and on April 8, 1908 the freight traffic had to be stopped.

David Davies acquired the company and on the basis of a Light Railway Order the route was rebuilt with the support of Cambrian Railways . It reopened on July 31, 1911. It was operated by Cambrian Railways.

With the Railways Act 1921 , the company came to the Great Western Railway in 1923 .
