Ferdinand von Witzleben
Klamor August Ferdinand von Witzleben (born August 9, 1800 in Osnabrück , † October 4, 1859 in Goslar ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and owner of the manors Jamke and Sorge.
Life
origin
Ferdinand came from the Thuringian noble family von Witzleben and was the eldest son of the writer August von Witzleben and his first wife Antoinette, née Freiin von Heine (1780-1809).
Military career
Witzleben joined the Hanseatic Legion , commanded by his father , during the Wars of Liberation at the beginning of October 1813 and took part in the blockades of Rendsburg and Hamburg. In mid-July 1814 he became an ensign in the Meppen Landwehr Battalion of the 10th Infantry Regiment of the Hanoverian Army . On January 15, 1819, he retired with the character as a lieutenant to study at the University of Halle . Shortly thereafter, in March 1819, he joined the Prussian Army . First aggregated as a second lieutenant in the 27th Infantry Regiment , Witzleben completed the General War School . This was followed by commands to the topographic office and the general staff . As Prime Lieutenant he was transferred to the General Staff at the end of March 1831 and at the end of March 1834 came to the General Staff of the Guard Corps as captain . Left in this command, Witzleben was aggregated on March 26, 1841 Major and the 24th Infantry Regiment . On July 29, 1842 he was transferred to Danzig in the 5th Infantry Regiment and on January 10, 1843 he was appointed commander of the 2nd Battalion. After serving as commander of the 1st Battalion in the 5th Landwehr Regiment, Witzleben was reassigned to the General Staff on March 21, 1848 and at the end of the month he was appointed Chief of the General Staff of the III. Army Corps appointed. On December 16, 1848, he said goodbye to be able to enter Mecklenburg-Schwerin services .
Witzleben was promoted to colonel and commander of the troop brigade on January 1, 1849 . He led this in the same year on the occasion of the suppression of the Baden Revolution in the battles near Waldmichelbach and Greater Saxony . By the end of September 1858 Witzleben rose to lieutenant general, joined the Prussian Army again on November 22, 1858 and with this rank became commander of the 12th division . Due to health reasons, he took a vacation in Goslar in mid-August 1859 and died there of a stroke .
Witzleben was buried in the Invalidenfriedhof Berlin . His grave is preserved.

Witzleben married Natalie Horten-Barbenis (1807–1887) on March 24, 1827. The couple had several children:
