Mawson Flat is a dry plateau in East Antarctic Victoria Land . It lies south and east of Mount Murray and extends to the Mawson Glacier .

The southern group of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition campaign carried out from 1962 to 1963 named it after the name of the neighboring glacier. Its namesake is the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson (1882-1958).
