The Max-Brauer-Schule (abbreviation MBS ) is a district school in the Hamburg-Altona district , which was named after the politician and Hamburg mayor Max Brauer .

The school is a member of the school association Blick über den Zaun , an association of reform- oriented schools. It is also a Club of Rome school .

Around 1300 students attend the school, 240 of them in primary school .

location

The school has two locations in the districts of Ottensen and Bahrenfeld, about five minutes' walk from each other.

history

In 1979 the former elementary, secondary and secondary school became a comprehensive school . Since 1992 it has had an affiliated secondary school branch. After a school reform in Hamburg , the Max-Brauer-Schule has been a district school since August 1st, 2010.

particularities

The school does not offer ordinary subject classes that are held in 45-minute sequences. Instead, learning takes place in the learning office, in projects and in workshops. In the learning office, each student plans their own learning project together with the teacher and reflects this with the help of competence grids .

The school places a special emphasis on the integration of students who are very different in social, cultural and ethnic terms. Of the approximately 1300 students, around 200 do not have a German passport. Around 240 students attend the three-course primary level.

Awards

  • In 1998 the school was named "Environmental School in Europe 1997/98".
  • In 2003 the school received the Theodor Heuss Medal .
  • In 2006 the school was awarded the German School Prize.
