Max Apel

Max Apel (born May 16, 1869 in Berlin ; † 1945 ) was a German philosopher and university professor.

Life

He was the son of the father of the same name and his wife, née Brand. He studied philosophy at the University of Berlin , where he in 1894 also to Dr. phil. PhD. The subject of his inaugural dissertation was The Basic Concepts of the Critique of Pure Reason Receptivity, Spontaneity and Intellectual Intuition, in Their Significance for Critical Epistemology .

He then worked as director and lecturer in philosophy at the "Free University" in Berlin. He achieved supraregional fame in particular through his Philosophical Dictionary , which appeared for the first time in 1930 and was edited in the sixth edition in 1976 by Peter Christian Ludz.

Max Apel was a member of the Kant Society and the Society for Ethical Culture .
