Max Behrend (born March 17, 1862 in Kolberg , † February 3, 1927 in Darmstadt ) was a German theater actor , director , director and writer .

Life

The son of a doctor decided in 1881 for the stage profession. Behrend took lessons from Gustav Berndal and began his acting career in Eisenach, then went to Sondershausen, Halle, Graz, Breslau, Brno, Riga, Prague, Cologne, undertook an Orient tour, came to Bremen in 1896, to the Schillertheater in 1898 and first in 1900 Director and character actor at the German Theater in London, where he was also entrusted with the artistic direction of the stage. He had been artistic director in Mainz since 1905 and 1906. In 1912 he succeeded Emil Claar as artistic director of the Frankfurt theater and stayed there until 1916.
