Max Leeser
Max Leeser (* 1855 in Hildesheim ; † 1935 ) was a German banker .
Life
Leeser founded Hildesheimer Bank in 1886 and was its director for 35 years. He promoted trade, industry and culture in Hildesheim and had a significant influence on the potash and sugar industries in the region. Among other things, he was involved in founding the Hildesheim City Theater . He donated many of the monuments in the city that were lost during the time of National Socialism and the Second World War . The cat fountain on Neustädter Markt was also originally a gift from Lee.
On July 16, 1928 he was granted honorary citizenship of the city. He was also awarded the Golden Citizen Medal. In 1965, Max-Leeser-Strasse in Neustadt was named after him.
