Memorial to Max Miller in Brighton

Max Miller (born November 21, 1894 in Brighton , † May 7, 1963 ) was real name Thomas Henry Sargent and was a British comedian, also known as "The Cheeky Chappie". He was one of the best-known faces in the English variety theater from the 1930s to 1950s, even if, always connected to the dialect of his home region, he found an audience especially in London and southern England. In addition to his stage appearances, he also starred in films, composed songs and recorded numerous records. Miller was known for his flashy suits as well as for his mischievous streak, which caused him trouble with the censors because of his often slippery humor. Miller was the creator or multiplier of numerous catchwords and phrases, some of which are still used in England today.
