Wilhelm Julius Coyet

Wilhelm Julius Coyet , also Coijet (born April 14, 1647 in Stockholm , † April 27, 1709 ibid) was a Swedish lawyer, diplomat and government official.

Life

He was the son of the Swedish diplomat Peter Julius Coyet (1618–1667) and Katarina Magdalena Leuhusen (1628–1647). He studied at Uppsala University from 1654 , then went on trips abroad and from 1661 attended Heidelberg University . In 1666 he became a chancellery. He accompanied his father in 1666/1667 on legations to England and the Netherlands. At Oxford University he became a Master of Arts in 1667 .

In the following years he was a member of various commissions. 1673 was secretary at the judicial audit. From 1676 to 1678 he conducted research into witchcraft . From 1682 to 1684 he was envoy extraordinary in Copenhagen . From 1684 he was presiding judge ( lagman ) in Skåne and from 1690 in Blekinge . In 1692 he became Chancellor in Swedish Pomerania and the following year Vice President of the Wismar Tribunal . In 1698 and 1699 he headed a commission commissioned by Charles XII. should investigate the coinage in Swedish Pomerania and their influence by the deposed Governor General Nils Bielke . In March 1705 Wilhelm Julius Coyet was appointed court chancellor in Stockholm. In 1706 he was raised to the status of Swedish baron. In 1707 he signed a contract with Mecklenburg-Schwerin as an authorized representative .

Wilhelm Julius Coyet was married three times. His first marriage in 1673 with Elsa Palmqvist (1649–1679), the daughter of the Chamber Councilor Gustav Palmqvist, had a daughter and a son, who later became General Gustav Wilhelm Coyet (1678–1730). The second marriage to Elisabeth Gyllenstjerna af Svaneholm (1661–1703) resulted in four sons and a daughter. The third marriage he concluded in 1704 with Anna Sofia Lindenow (1657-1716).
