Mayerlis Angarita Robles (born in San Juan Nepomuceno ) is a Colombian human rights activist and founder and spokeswoman of the women's collective Narrar para Vivir (German: Tell to live) and a member of a gender advisory committee on legislation in Colombia. In 2018, Mayerlis Angarita Robles and Jineth Bedoya Lima were awarded the Anne Klein Women's Prize by the Heinrich Böll Foundation for their work for women's rights and peaceful conflict resolution in Colombia .

life and work

Mayerlis Angarita Robles is a victim representative in the Montes de María area in the departments of Bolívar and Sucre . She herself lost her mother in the war and her family was driven out by paramilitary units. At a young age she joined the Redepaz , a national network of citizens' initiatives for peace and against war. In 2000, together with Eleida Leiva and Katrin Martínez, she founded the organization Narrar para Vivir, a women's collective that tries to cope with the consequences of the war by telling stories and working in the communities in the area and to help women achieve more autonomy. Narrar para Vivir not only relies on the cathartic, healing power of storytelling, but also teaches women in a mobile school and created jobs in a clothing company and a cattle breeding company. In 2018, 840 women belonged to the network.

In her advisory role in the legislature, Mayerlis Angarita Robles advocated strengthening the rights of victims of the armed conflict. She was involved in the peace negotiations in Havana and is committed to the implementation of the peace treaty negotiated there.

Mayerlis Angarita Robles is exposed to massive hostility and dangers for her work, there have been two murders on her. The second attack, which she escaped unharmed, took place in 2015, despite personal protection, when she was candidate for mayor for San Juan Nepomuceno.
