San Juan Nepomuceno is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Bolivar in northern Colombia .

geography

San Juan Nepomuceno is located in the center of Bolívar , 72 km from Cartagena and has an average temperature of 27 ° C. The municipality borders Mahates , El Guamo and Calamar in the north, Tenerife in the Magdalena department in the east, San Jacinto and Zambrano in the south and María La Baja in the west .

population

The municipality of San Juan Nepomuceno has 34,012 inhabitants, of which 27,412 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

On the territory of modern San Juan Nepomuceno lived before the arrival of the Spaniards indigenous people of Malibúes . The place itself was founded in 1776 by Antonio de la Torre y Miranda. San Juan Nepomuceno has had parish status since 1870.

economy

The main industries in San Juan Nepomuceno are cattle production and agriculture , especially the cultivation of yams , cassava , bananas and corn .
