Turbaco is a municipality ( municipio ) of the departments of Bolivar in northern Colombia . Turbaco is part of the unofficial Cartagena Metropolitan Area , the metropolitan area of Cartagena .

Turbaco is located north of Bolívar , 10 km east of Cartagena and has an average temperature of 27 ° C. The municipality is bordered by Santa Rosa and Villanueva in the north, San Estanislao in the east, Arjona and Turbaná in the south and Cartagena in the west.

history

Before the arrival of the Spaniards, the indigenous people of the Yurbaco lived in the area of ​​today's Turbaco . The name Turbaco refers to an indigenous cacique . Turbaco has existed as a Spanish settlement since 1510. The pleasant climate prompted Viceroy Antonio Caballero y Góngora to spend part of his tenure in Turbaco. The Mexican general and politician Antonio López de Santa Anna went into exile in Turbaco in 1853 .
